5083 Aluminum Plate Application


November 29, 2016, the first ship of liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchased from France begin to provide convenience for Peking Man.

Aluminum is the best material for the manufacture of LNG tanks because it is a very good cryogenic structural material, easy to form, weldability is good, the recovery rate of up to 95% or more. The ball is made up of three parts, the lower hemisphere called the "southern hemisphere", the middle part of what is called "equatorial ring", the upper hemisphere called "the northern hemisphere". Equatorial board thickness is 170mm, where the hull connected with the "apron" components equipped with a bracket, a variety of piping in the shelf.

Equatorial rings are made of 170mm thick plate. Canister covered with a composite insulation layer, to prevent the outside heat into the internal liquefied gas to maintain the -163 ℃. The outer layer of the composite insulation layer is a thin aluminum plate with two layers of plastic foam in the middle, one layer of phenol resin and another layer of rigid polyurethane foam. Each tank is used with 6000 sheets of heat shield, One screw is fastened to the tank body.

The tank and piping brackets are made of 5083-O aluminum alloy. Part of the "apron" is made of 5083-H321 alloy sheet with high strength. The amount of aluminum used in a large tank is about 750t and the amount of one vessel is about 3000t.  In order to safely transport LNG, it is necessary to ensure the manufacturing quality of large cans, especially welding quality.

5083-O alloy has good low-temperature properties, -200 ℃ tensile strength Rm = 405N / mm2, higher than room temperature 40%, elongation of 43%, 22% higher than room temperature 95% LNG (about -155 ℃) equipped with good material.
